SIAM Membership Approaching 12,000!
As of December 31, 2007, SIAM had 11,772 members including 597 postgraduates, 4,238 students, and 440 outreach members. The charts below show some interesting facts about SIAM membership in 2007. (Click on any chart to see a larger version.)

SIAM Sections -- Your local network

SIAM encourages the formation of sections made up of members residing in a geographic area. Sections organize lectures, meetings, and other activities that serve members in their region. SIAM awarded a total of $22,528 in 2007 to support section activities.
United States
- The Great Lakes Section of SIAM (GLSIAM)
Draws members from industry and academia in Michigan, Northern Ohio, Northern Indiana, Southern Ontario and surrounding areas. The Great Lakes Section 2008 Spring Meeting Snapshots of Applied Mathematics will be at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor on April 12, 2008. - SIAM Southeastern Atlantic Section (SIAM-SEAS)
Sponsors an annual meeting for members from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. SIAM approved funding to the section to support its 32nd annual meeting on March 14–15, 2008, at the University of Central Florida in Orlando. - The Southern California Section of SIAM
Sponsors an annual symposium. - SIAM Washington-Baltimore Section
Regularly hosts evening events consisting of dinner followed by an expository lecture. SIAM sponsored the section’s fall meeting on November 14, 2007, at the Homewood Campus of Johns Hopkins University, which featured a presentation by Don Geman on Interactive Search for Image Categories by Mental Matching.
Outside United States
- Argentinean Section of SIAM (AR-SIAM)
With funding from SIAM, AR-SIAM sponsored the first annual Applied, Computational, and Industrial Mathematics Congress (MACI) in 2007. - Bulgaria Section of SIAM (BGSIAM)
SIAM approved funding to support the 2nd Annual Meeting of BGSIAM which was hosted by the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Sofia, on December 20–21, 2007. - East Asia Section of SIAM (EASIAM)
Promotes the application of mathematics to science, engineering and technology in East and South East Asia. SIAM approved funding to the section to support the Third East Asia Section of SIAM Conference in Xiamen, China, on November 2–5, 2007. - United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland Section of SIAM (UKIE SIAM)
Sponsors an annual meeting and student prizes. SIAM approved funding for the most recent meeting, which was free to SIAM members on January 4, 2008, at Southampton University.
Reciprocal membership now available to mathematicians in Canada
SIAM signed a reciprocity agreement with the Canadian Applied Mathematics Society (CAIMS). Reciprocal membership is available to individuals residing outside the United States who belong to another mathematical society with which SIAM has a reciprocity agreement. Reciprocal Members who belong to CAIMS receive a 20% discount off the SIAM regular member dues rate and receive all the benefits of regular membership.
